Turkey Shepherd's Pie

1 lb ground turkey

1 small onion,chopped

½ green pepper,chopped

2 small celerystalks, thinly sliced

2 medium carrots,peeled and thinly sliced

3 tablespoonstomato paste

Salt, pepper anddried herbs of choice to taste

2 cloves freshgarlic, crushed

1 teaspoon sweetrice flour or arrowroot flour to thicken

1 tablespoon Gheeor avocado oil

3 large potatoesor about 1 ½ medium sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into even sized pieces

¼ cup chicken stock


Mashed potatoes

  1. Bring pot of water to the boil and add potatoes/sweet potatoes.
  2. Cook until tender,roughly 25 minutes. They should be so tender that they’ll fall apart when pierced with a fork. Drain any remaining cooking water.
  3. Warm your chicken stock.
  4. In the potatopot, add salt and pepper, and gradually add chicken stock while mashing thepotatoes to desired consistency.


  1. Preheat oven to broil.
  2. Preheat large sauté pan on medium-high for 2-3 minutes and add 1 tablespoon ghee or avocado oil.
  3. Add onion, green pepper, celery and carrots and cook 4-5 minutes, stirring occasionally or until vegetables start to brown.
  4. Stir in the turkey; cook 5-7 minutes, stirring to crumble meat, until meat is brown.Stir in tomato paste, seasoning and garlic; reduce heat and simmer 3 minutes
  5. Mix 1 teaspoonsweet rice flour or arrowroot flour with a little water to form a paste. Stirinto turkey mixture, adding another ½ teaspoon (mixed to a paste) if a thickerconsistency is desired. Alternatively, add a little water to the pan if itbecomes too thick.
  6. Spoon turkey mixture into baking dish, spread mashed potatoes evenly over turkey mixture and broil 5 minutes or until golden.
